Dry Deck® system, on AquaStar's patent list

Dry Deck® deck drains

A drain system for pool decks in 2 inch and 3 inch, with PVC covers, an outlet sump and rebar clips.

Deck water needs a way out

In general, a pool deck takes on water from three places: splash and drips off swimmers, rain, and the rinse when someone hoses it down. Concrete poured to a slight fall carries that water along, and a deck drain is where the fall ends. With no drain, the water collects at the low edge, runs toward the house, or stands on the deck until the sun takes it.

That is general trade craft, not an AquaStar specification. What AquaStar publishes about the Dry Deck® drain system is its parts list and its patent entry, and the rest of this page keeps to those.

Why the drain is set at the pour

A deck drain is cast into the deck, so it has to be in position before the concrete is. Once the slab has cured, moving a drain means cutting concrete. That is why a drain system arrives as parts that go in ahead of the pour: the drain itself, a way to hold it in line, and an outlet for the water.

The Dry Deck® system lists exactly those parts: drain in 2 inch and 3 inch sizes, PVC covers, an outlet sump and rebar clips. In general, a rebar clip ties a drain to the reinforcing steel so wet concrete does not push it out of line.

A patented system, sold through distributors

Dry Deck® is on AquaStar's patent list, alongside the Lite Star® light, the Pipeline Pump, the Pipeline Filter, the PureStar™ injector and the Perfect Circle and Full Circle drains. It is one of the more than 60 patents AquaStar has built up since it was founded in October 2003.

AquaStar does not sell direct and publishes no prices. Orders go through a local authorized distributor. If you are not sure who yours is, or which size and cover a particular deck run takes, the Ventura office on (877) 768-2717 can point you to the right distributor, Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
